Howdy Kieth, I just started using Powershell, and so far I love it. I used to script on Unix machines in the 1990s, and its good to see that kind of power in .NET now.
I also see you’re in Colorado; I’m in Boulder myself. If you’re at any events in the denver area, it would be nice to meet. I have never met anyone with +20k reputation!
I used to attend the Boulder .NET user group meetings (even presented on PowerShell several years back). Does this group still meet? I mostly attend the Northern Colorado .NET user group with occassional trips down to Denver for the Visual Studio user group meetings.
Dear Keith Hill,
Excuse my bad English, I am Spanish.
I am writing for his article entitled: Win32_PhysicalMedia returns incorrect serial number on Vista or higher when to run as standard user.
https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/623282/win32-physicalmedia-returns-incorrect-serial-number-on-vista-or-higher-when-run-as-standard-user#
I have this problem today and I wonder if he found the solution to this or if Microsoft will comment the solution.
Thanks in advance. My email is: aferreirag@nvs.com.ve and my name Angel Ferreira.
Sorry if you upset, but please tell me if this notice was received by you.
Greetings and thank you.
As far as I can tell this is still a problem even on Windows 8. To work-around this I think you will need to access the hard drive serial number using a different mechanism than WMI.

Keith –
I just read your “Effective Windows Powershell”. Excellent book! I’m looking forward to poking around your site, finding some books of yours I can buy.

Hi Keith,
I ran into a problem that you exposed in an MSDN Social Forum thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vcgeneral/thread/2817cae7-3a71-4701-839a-9bf47af7c498
Unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be any acceptable workarounds back then. Have you found a decent solution to this yet? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could share it.
Thanks,
Alex
Sorry, never did find a decent workaround for getting the directory of a VSPROPs file.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for writing Effective Windows Powershell, and making it freely available! Coming from Unix and Linux, it’s great to see the approach taken by the creators of Powershell with an interesting mix of syntax idioms “borrowed” from many different places.
Best
Ben
